Haydn Youth String Orchestra
Founded in 1989, the Haydn Youth String Orchestra (HYSO) is one of the leading youth string orchestras in the Netherlands. Based in the north of the Netherlands, the ensemble brings together talented string players aged 12 to 19 and is dedicated to supporting the artistic and musical development of young musicians within the European string-playing tradition.
Many members continue their studies at conservatories. Conductor Jan-Ype Nota is also affiliated with the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra and teaches at the Prins Claus Conservatoire in Groningen and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague.
The HYSO performs at a high artistic level and combines strong technical standards with ambition and commitment. Through weekly rehearsals, study weekends, chamber music coaching and regular concerts, members gain extensive ensemble experience and opportunities to appear as soloists. Each season, a soloist from within the orchestra is featured.
The orchestra presents approximately 20 concerts each season in the Netherlands and abroad. Its annual international tour is a highlight of the year. Over the past decades, the HYSO has toured widely throughout Europe, as well as in the United States, the Caribbean, and Suriname, earning international recognition and winning several competitions.
